A new report suggests things are only going to get worse. BlackBerry announced earlier this week that it is exploring a sale of the company as it looks for ways to reverse course, and Forbes contributor Ewan Spence believes the news will probably scare developers
away. This would be awful news for BlackBerry and its users, of course, as the company's app store is already so barren compared to rival platforms.
"Third party application support is
already weak on BlackBerry 10, and the
announcement this week from the company will have a chilling effect on
developer support for the platform,"
Spence wrote . "With iOS and Android always likely to top the list of 'supported
platforms', there is arguably only space for one more platform that can be supported with any real sense of purpose."
Spence concludes that Microsoft's
Windows Phone platform is now the go-
to third mobile ecosystem for developers
looking to branch out.

Facebook makes you miserable according to study
A recent study conducted by scientists at the University of Michigan found that the more people log in to Facebook, the less happy they
are.
"On the surface, Facebook provides an invaluable resource for fulfilling the basic human need for social connection," social psychologist Ethan Kross told The Telegraph . "But rather than enhance well-being, we found that Facebook use predicts the opposite result – it undermines it." In other words, the more people used Facebook, the more miserable they grew.
While scientific, the study was not an extensive one — only 82 young adults
were observed by Kross and his team while research was being conducted. A link to the full study can be found below: http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0069841

Samsung announces the Hennessy: A flip android phone
Samsung has officially taken its "try anything" approach to gadgets to a whole new level. The company on Wednesday announced the Hennessy, an Android flip phone that features dual 3.3-inch touch displays with resolutions of 320 x 480 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1500 mAh battery and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. While the idea of bringing back older form factors such as the flip phone may seem silly, remember that many people mocked Samsung for bringing back the stylus with its Galaxy Note series that turned into a surprise hit. Samsung still hasn't announced any release date or pricing for the Hennessy.
Is this the end: Blackberry might go private:
The Globe and Mail notes, private-equity firms such as Fairfax Financial Holdings that specialize in helping take companies private rarely leave those companies in one piece and will often sell them off in pieces to recoup some of their investment.
"Some Canadians are now pinning their hopes on Fairfax, the Toronto holding company that owns close to 10% of BlackBerry shares," The Globe and Mail writes. "A financial consortium is more likely to sell BlackBerry's most valuable assets to other smartphone manufacturers, to industrial groups or to tech companies looking for patents to protect themselves against intellectual property lawsuits. BlackBerry still has a lot to offer besides its patents, such as its valuable enterprise services business. The security of its data network is unrivalled. Its BBM messenger service is still popular. But make no mistake: The company would be broken up."
All the same, taking the company private with a private-equity firm may be the best option BlackBerry has left, since the firm has reportedly been trying unsuccessfully to find a buyer for the past year.

Cheaper iPhone 5C
Details surrounding the new mid-range iPhone have been leaking for months, but two high-quality photo galleries showing off the iPhone 5C shell in white and green gave us our closest look yet at Apple's new iPhone. Now, emerging insider Sonny Dickson is back with a high-definition video that closely examines a yellow iPhone 5C housing.
The video shows the new case next to several older iPhone models and it also provides a side-by-side comparison with the current iPhone 5. The iPhone 5C appears to be slightly taller and thicker than the iPhone 5 — and therefore the iPhone 5S, in all likelihood — and it will also reportedly feature more modest specs.
The new budget iPhone may be unveiled alongside the iPhone 5S on September 10th, and it will reportedly be made available in at least five different colors.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 might come in three sizes
Engadget takes a look at the model number for the Note III and finds that Samsung has developed at least three different sizes for the device: One that's 5.5 inches large, one that's 5.7 inches and one that's 6 inches. All three models were shipped to India "for R&D" purposes, however, so it's not clear whether Samsung really plans to release all of them. The latest rumors on the Note III's specs indicate that it will feature a 5.7-inch display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, Android 4.3 and support for LTE-Advanced.

2013 Nexus 7 from Google with wireless charging
A sharper display, wireless charging, quad-core processor, and rear-facing camera: Google's 2013 edition of the Nexus 7 proves you can get plenty of bang at a cheap price.
Though the Nexus 7 tablet bears the same name as its predecessor, its new look and long list of feature updates including the much-anticipated Android 4.3 —give it the aura of an entirely new gadget.
The only similarity between 2012's Nexus 7 and this year's model is its 7-inch diagonal screen size. Indeed, the two tablets are so different, they really should have different names. Google's new tablet is thinner and sleeker—Hugo Barra, vice president of Android product management at Google, explained that the side bezels were reduced by 3mm on each side so that the device would be easier to hold with one hand. Shaving off that 6mm provides a "much more comfortable grip," Barra said at the event.
Google also stuck with a pure black-on-black design with the same soft touch that Barra says "everyone loved in the original Nexus 7." Rather than stick with Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 chip, the Asus-built device now features a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It's the same chip featured inside the Nexus 4 handset announced late last year, though according to Android Police , initial Nexus 7 performance benchmarks show the processor performing just a bit better inside the tablet. This particular chip should help increase battery life, as well as speed up software multitasking. The tablet's RAM has also been increased from 1GB to 2GB to help support processing power.
Photo-frantic users will appreciate that the new Nexus 7 adds a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera to the mix, complementing the front-facing 1.2 megapixel camera that was available in the original model. There's also a Slim Port on the back of the device that enables you to pipe 1080p video to your TV with an HDMI cable.
And to help add to that experience, the new Nexus 7 will feature dual speakers on each side of the device. Google teamed up with Fraunhofer, a German engineering firm, to integrate virtual surround sound for the onboard speakers and any connected headphones. Barra compared this new features to a "5.1 surround sound system… just using the device speakers or any pair of headphones."
Other hardware perks include the ability to wireless charge the device with an Qi-standardized wireless charger, a feature that is only available on a limited variety of Android devices. You'll be able to simply plop down the device on a compatible charging base and have it refuel overnight. The Nexus 7 will also have NFC capabilities, and unlike its predecessor, Google and Asus will only offer a 16GB and 32GB variant of the Android tablet, priced at $229 and $269, respectively. You can also pick up a 32GB LTE version for $349. Last year's Nexus 7 is now listed as "no longer available" in the Google Play store.

iPhone 5S will be in short supply @ launch, no new ipadmini launch.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo has a good track record when it comes to details surrounding unannounced Apple products, and he reported in a research note on Tuesday that manufacturing issues will leave the iPhone 5S in short supply when it launches in late September.
Kuo didn't elaborate, though an earlier report claimed the production issues are related to the iPhone 5S's new fingerprint scanner. Supply is expected to pick up in October and November, according to Kuo's note.
The analyst also said that Apple's entry-level plastic iPhone will launch later this year, but he claims Apple will not launch a new iPad mini model alongside the overhauled fifth-generation full-size iPad. Instead, he claims Apple will debut two new iPad mini models in 2014, a high-end Retina iPad mini and a cheaper update to the current model.

Windows phone market has gotten so big in Russia such that the country's largest wireless carrier drops supprot for iPhone because it thinks Apple isn't offering a fair deal.
"Apple wants operators to pay them huge money, subsidizing iPhones and their promotion in Russia," Andrei Dubovskov, CEO of OAO Mobile TeleSystems, told Bloomberg. "Now it's not beneficial for us. It's good we stopped selling the iPhone as these sales would've brought us a negative margin."
They wouldn't have been able to do this if there isn't a good alternative with a large market. First quarter reports reveal that windows phone sales almost equal iPhone sales, this as also been made possible as a result of Nokia's traditional strength in Russia.

Microsoft plans to gather user's local search data and plans to use it to know which ads you'll see when using microsoft products.
As InfoWorld puts it, Windows 8.1 "not only searches your computer for the string you specify it also, all by itself, gathers up the terms and runs them through a Bing search" so that terms you search for on your hard drive result in advertisements for similar products on Amazon, eBay and other websites. InfoWorld also notes that Microsoft is encouraging users to set up a Microsoft account as a prerequisite for using Windows 8.1, similar to how Android devices encourage users to create Google accounts capable of tracking them across multiple services.

USA security firm has figured out how to turn an Android smartphone into a surveillance device that would make Q, the fictional gadget master in the James Bond movies, proud. The Security Labs of Kindsight, a part of Alcatel-Lucent, has built a proof-of-concept program capable of tracking the user's location, intercepting messages, recording conversations, and taking pictures.
"Effectively, it turns the Android device into a spy phone," Kevin McNamee, lab director for Kindsight, said Friday. McNamee plans to present the espionage
tool at the Black Hat USA conference next month. The program can runs inside any app, the technology, codenamed DroidWhisper, can be hidden as a component within any Android app and run covertly in the background, booting up automatically when the device is turned on.
Once installed, the spyware would receive
instructions from a command-and-control (C&C)
server, which could communicate either over the
Internet or through the phone's Short Message
Service used for text messaging.
From a control panel on
the server, criminals or government spies would be able to control the phone's camera, video and still, and make use of its microphone and recording capabilities. The panel also would be used to collect all the recorded content and images, as well as any personal information on the phone.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo says he's not worried about instagram video
Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo said Wednesday that he's not that worried about Facebook's new foray into video via its Instagram service. The video feature, unveiled last week, directly competes with Twitter's own Vine.
"People can do whatever they want to do," Costolo said during a question-and-answer session at the Brookings Institution in Washington. Twitter, he said, is focused on that goal more than it's worried about other companies taking its lunch.
The social network has a "very specific vision of
where we want to go" with Vine, Costolo said,
which is to make it easy to produce public, widely
distributed videos.
"Other people can replicate that or take pieces of
it if that's what they want to do," Costolo said. "If
we do what we want to do, and go where we want
to go, we don't have to worry about what that guy's
doing over there."
The executive said that he sees Twitter as the
"global town square" and would like to make it
possible for people in every country to access the
network.

New technology can make us all see behind walls just like superman(man of steel).
MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. The new system uses low-power Wi-Fi signal to track moving humans — even behind walls However, previous efforts to develop such a system have involved the use of expensive and bulky radar technology that uses a part of the electromagnetic spectrum only available to the military.
Now a system being developed by Dina Katabi, a professor in MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and her graduate student Fadel Adib, could give all of us the ability to spot people in different rooms using low-cost Wi-Fi technology. "We wanted to create a device that is
low-power, portable and simple enough for anyone to use, to give people the ability to see through walls and closed doors," Katabi says.
The system, called "Wi-Vi," is based on a concept
similar to radar and sonar imaging. But in contrast to radar and sonar, it transmits a low-power Wi-Fi signal and uses its reflections to track moving humans. It can do so even if the humans are in closed rooms or hiding behind a wall.
As a Wi-Fi signal is transmitted at a wall, a portion of the signal penetrates through it, reflecting off any
humans on the other side. However, only a tiny fraction of the signal makes it through to the other
room, with the rest being reflected by the wall, or by other objects. "So we had to come up with a
technology that could cancel out all these other
reflections, and keep only those from the moving
human body," Katabi says.
Motion detector: To do this, the system uses two transmit antennas and a single receiver. The two antennas transmit almost identical signals, except that the signal from the second antenna is the inverse of the first. As a result, the two signals interfere with each other in such a way as to cancel each other out. Since any static objects that the signals hit — including the wall — create identical reflections, they too are cancelled out by this nulling effect.
In this way, only those reflections that change between the two signals, such as those from a moving object, arrive back at the receiver, Adib says. "So, if the person moves behind the wall, all reflections from static objects are cancelled out, and the only thing registered by the device is the moving human."
Once the system has cancelled out all of the
reflections from static objects, it can then
concentrate on tracking the person as he or she
moves around the room. Most previous attempts to
track moving targets through walls have done so using an array of spaced antennas, which each capture the signal reflected off a person moving through the environment. But this would be too expensive and bulky for use in a handheld device.
So instead Wi-Vi uses just one receiver. As the person moves through the room, his or her distance from the receiver changes, meaning the time it takes for the reflected signal to make its way back to the receiver changes too. The system then uses this information to calculate where the person is at any one time.
Possible Uses: In disaster recovery, personal safety,
gaming. Wi-Vi, being presented at the Sigcomm conference in Hong Kong in August, could be used to help search-and-rescue teams to find survivors trapped in rubble after an earthquake, say, or to allow police officers to identify the number and movement of criminals within a building to avoid walking into an ambush. It could also be used as a personal safety device, Katabi says: "If you are walking at night and you have the feeling that someone is following you, then you could use it to check if there is someone behind the fence or behind a corner."
The device can also detect gestures or movements by a person standing behind a wall, such as a wave of the arm, Katabi says. This would allow it to be used as a gesture-based interface for controlling lighting or appliances within the home, such as turning off the lights in another room with a wave of the arm. Venkat Padmanabhan, a principal researcher at Microsoft Research, says the possibility of using Wi-Vi as a gesture-based interface that does not require a line of sight between the user and the device itself is perhaps its most interesting application of all. "Such an interface could alter the face of gaming," he says. Unlike today's interactive gaming devices, where users must stay in front of the console and its camera at all times, users could still interact with the system while in another room, for example. This could open up the possibility of more complex and interesting games, Katabi says.

Iphone 5S could be 12weeks away.
The prediction of a September 20 release date (and a product announcement ten days earlier that will also include the September 18 release date of iOS 7) is being ventured by Dave Smith, technology editor for International Business Times. Here's what it's based on:
First, he assumes that iOS 7 will follow the pattern of iOS 6 and be released exactly 100 days after its announcement (that would be the September 18 date). Then he figures the new iPhone will follow by just two days, just as the iPhone 5 followed two days after iOS 6. Apple does tend to follow these kinds of almost superstitious and numerological habits, so his math makes sense.
A bigger leap based on leaks and rumors concerns the low-cost iPhone 6 (or iPhone Light or whatever) that Smith goes on to predict will be released a week or two later (to avoid excess lines at the Apple stores.)
Assuming the rumors are true and that leaked photos of brightly colored plastic iPhone casings are legit and not just unauthorized Chinese knockoffs, release dates of September 27 or October 4 sound plausible.
These supposedly colorful and inexpensive iPhone will be aimed primarily at the developing markets of China and India, but I think they will prove popular here as well. The preciousness of the standard iPhone casing is not actually a selling point for some users, particularly the young and butter-fingered! Now if they could work some smash-proof glass in there too that would be a real winner.
The other reason for the close coupling of these release dates, again according to Smith, is to make room later in October for another announcement, this time for a new full-size iPad and a retina iPad Mini— and maybe a new Apple TV and/or an iWatch—just in time for Christmas shopping.
The low-cost iPhone could do for Apple's phone line what the iPad Mini has done for its tablet line. The lower price point, rather than the smaller size, is the thing that will convince incremental customers to join the Apple platform. The Apple TV, the iWatch and iOS in the car are the things that will extend that experience and give users ever more things to hook their iPhones up to.
If Apple can do all of this (or even most of it) and tune up the rough edges on iOS 7, the end of 2013 could prove to be a turn-around for Cupertino's fortunes. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

Investors dump blackberry shares
The release of the last quarter sales by Blackberry changed the mind of blackberry investors. Blackberry phones sold below what was expected, they lost 4 million subscribers and had a net loss of $84 million. On friday blackberry shares tumbled by 28 percent. Chief Executive Thorsten Heins has staked the company's future on a new operating system, BlackBerry 10, which it unveiled early this year, and a bevy of phones that run off it. Many investors have bet this turnaround plan could work, sending RIM's shares up 59% in the 12 months before Friday's news.

Instagram suffers fruit spam attack
An Instagram spokeswoman responded to our request for comment with the following: "Earlier today a small portion of our users experienced a spam incident where unwanted photos were posted from their accounts. Our security and spam team quickly took actions to secure the accounts involved, and the posted photos are being deleted." Instagram seems to be auto-recognizing some of this suspicious activity. One affected user I spoke to told me that Instagram sent him a standard password reset email shortly after he noticed the errant activity, and he was automatically logged out of the service. He changed his password and seems to be fine right now. We are still waiting for facebook to explain what's goin on.
Fake BBM app fools lot of android users.
Taking advantage of people's curiosity, a wicked developer uploaded a fake BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) app for Android to Google Play, thereby fooling a lot of Android users. The app 'blackberry messenger bbm', was created by a developer called RIM. It seems that people who downloaded the app were not aware of the fact that BlackBerry phones are no longer called RIM. The company changed its name from RIM to BlackBerry in January. "More than 100,000 people downloaded the app, presenting them with a screen promising the app would start working on 27 June. If that didn't start alarm bells ringing, the app followed up with an agreement to allow advertising network StartApp to install icons, bookmarks and more on your phone," reports CNET.
Blackberry hasn't officially announced the release date for BBM on iOS and Android devices.
